With the new football season under way and attracting attention from the media and the school holidays coming to a close, now is the time to make sure your football pitch is ready for the winter season.

Today, we’ll run through a quick checklist of what needs checking and updating…

Goal posts and nets

Probably the most important piece of equipment for any football game (apart from the ball, of course). Now is a good time to ensure that your goal posts and nets are in good shape.

Check for damage to the posts themselves, making sure all bolts are present and tightened. If appropriate, make sure uprights sit correctly in their ground sockets. Do a visual inspection to make sure nets haven’t acquired and any additional unwanted holes and that they attach properly to the goal uprights and crossbar. Using a freestanding football goal? Check that it has sufficient anchorage to hold it firmly in place.

Replace any damaged or missing equipment as soon as possible. A new football net or net clips may transform a football goal, however sometimes a full replacement goal is required. A full selection of nets, clips, anchors and goal posts is available on our website.

Football coaching and training aids

To get down to some serious training, invest in some football specific coaching and training aids, and watch your players improve their skills. Try using slalom poles (these can be used on grass or synthetic pitches) to improve agility, and training hurdles such as hoops and ladders to work on balance and coordination. Using these aids can benefit everyone from primary school children to professional players.
